expanded in October 2022. The Flexible Housing Trial allows eligible members to
access housing benefits further away from their posting location to support:

b. their
partner seeking employment, other than home based employment, where the ADF
member is returning from a long-term posting overseas.
c. their
partner’s face-to-face study.
d. access
to professional services for a dependant with special needs.
e. their
child to continue to attend their early childcare, pre-school, primary school
or secondary school.
In these circumstances, the ADF member’s partner or child must
be a dependant.
A member’s eligibility to participate in the trial is
determined by their:
a. Director,
Commanding Officer, Officer Commanding or Unit Executive (Air Force only) not
below MAJ(E)/APS 6 in the member’s direct chain of command or supervision,
where the applicant is a Navy or Air Force member.
b. Commanding
officer not below MAJ in the member’s direct chain of command, where the
applicant is an Army member.
There must also be a place in the trial’s participant cap
before a member can be accepted.
To seek approval to participate in the trial members will need
to have had an extended posting location approved and complete the Flexible
Housing Trial Application Form.
Once approved, DHA can confirm if there is a place available
in the trial.
