Foreign Persons Can Buy DHA Property

Unless specifically exempt, ‘foreign persons’ intending to purchase Australian residential property are required to seek prior approval from the Australian Government through the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).

As DHA is a Commonwealth Government Business Enterprise foreign persons wishing to buy a DHA property are exempt and do not require notification or approval under the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeover’s Act 1975.

The definition of ‘foreign persons’ and details of exemptions are available from the FIRB website.

However, as legislation is subject to change, we recommend you consult the FIRB prior to purchasing one of our properties.
