Where are properties located?
DHA properties are located in metropolitan and regional centres
throughout Australia where the Australian Defence Force has a presence.
They are integrated throughout the community, close to amenities,
transport and schools, further adding to their value.
When constructing, acquiring or leasing properties, DHA’s preference is
to limit the number of properties within a development or suburb.
However, on occasion, DHA constructs medium to large-scale developments
to meet Department of Defence operational requirements. DHA does not
sell all properties it constructs or acquires
What type of properties are offered?
DHA offers a range of residential properties, including freestanding houses, townhouses, units, apartments and courtyard homes. In general, properties are less than ten years old.
All properties are fully established and sold with standard inclusions, in line with Department of Defence requirements. Inclusions can differ due to changes in requirements, climate and other regional factors.
Typical inclusions are:
- floor coverings
- window furnishings
- insulation
- heating and/or cooling
- security screens and doors
- fencing, and
- landscaping.
How will the property be used?
The lease allows DHA to use the property as a private dwelling.
DHA may also permit the tenant (or their partner or dependents) to operate a home business from the property. In this situation, the tenant is obligated to meet all local requirements to legally operate the business.
If this situation occurs, DHA will provide you with written advice to notify your insurer of the proposed home business.
Are pets allowed in the property?
Yes, unless prohibited by law or the regulations of a body corporate (or similar entity), with DHA’s permission, tenants are allowed to keep domestic pets in the property.
